Portable-XRF Applications in Geologic Research and Exploration
The portable X-Ray Fluorescence (pXRF) Spectrometry NB CIM Workshop will review the use and range of application of this technology, but start with fundamentals and safety basics as well. pXRF systems have been around for almost 40 years, but have really become routine exploration tools in the past 10 years as the technology evolved. They are powerful in a wide range of industrial applications, including Mineral Exploration and Mining. The workshop will focus mostly on the mineral exploration applications, calibration, QA/QC, and application on soils to rocks, with some example applications UNB & NB ERD has worked on together, but also many from the literature. We will have both UNB's new Vanta and NB Energy and Resource Development's X5000 bench-scale pXRF setups for demonstration purposes in the workshop. Both these instruments are generally available for some analyses from the public. The materials presented in the course will be available as pdfs, so bring a jumpdrive.
