1999/11/25 718 La Mousse Acadienne (1979) Ltee. The proposed project involves the development of a 72 hectare peat harvesting area on a bog that totals 116 hectares. This will involve a block cutting process as a mitigative measure to reduce air emissions. The project will also include land clearing, excavation of primary and secondary ditches, three drainage ditches on the north side of the bog, and the construction of an access road. The effluent from the northside drainage ditches will be released over the vegetated areas of peatland. The harvested peat will then be sent to an existing Acadian Peat Moss Factory for processing and bagging for a projected period of 25 years. 2001/01/08 778 Premier Horticulture The project involves the development of a 125 hectare peat harvesting area on a portion of peat bog #324N which is 255 hectares in size. Construction activities involve excavating drainage ditches and construction of four sedimentation ponds with a peatland buffer prior to draining into the East Branch Portage River. The harvested peat will be transported to an existing processing facility in Rogersville. The project received a Ministerial determination with conditions in May 2001. The company has since changed the proposed access road, which would connect to Route 117 in Baie Ste Anne. The change to the access road is the focus of the review. The Project facilities include the necessary infrastructure to receive, store and regassify LNG that is unloaded from marine tankers at a multi-purpose pier and transport the natural gas through a pipeline to the existing Irving Refinery in Saint John. The terminal is expected to operate continuously, with a design capacity of 28.3 million cubic meters of natural gas per day (1,000 million standard cubic feet per day -MMSCFD). 2003/11/24 981 City of Moncton It is proposal to undertake the construction of a second dam in the Turtle Creek Watershed to increase the water storage capacity of the City of Moncton, City of Dieppe, and the Town of Riverview water supply. Estimates provided show that by the year 2021, the average daily demand is anticipated at 18.32 million gallons. 2003/12/30 988 Ducks Unlimited Canada As recently as 2001, a beaver colony maintained a dam created the required shallow and deep marsh conditions required for wildlife. The beavers abandoned the dam, which eventually lead to degradation of the wetland’s wildlife habitat value. Ducks Unlimited (DU) Canada determined that when the beaver dam was active, the site had much higher wildlife value and habitat diversity, therefore DU has proposed to replace the beaver dam with a man made dam complete with fish passage and a water control structure. The City of Saint John (Saint John Industrial Parks Ltd.) is proposing to construct and operate a barge terminal at Maguire’s Cove, near Lorneville, NB, adjacent to the NB Power Coleson Cove Generating Station. The proposed project includes a permanently fixed bulkhead, located at the shoreline, a barge landing pad, two permanently fixed moorings located on the west side of the landing pad, an access road to the landing pad and a small storage building. The purpose of the terminal is to for the shipment of large prefabricated pollution control equipment for thermal generating plants located in various parts of the United States. Based on current predictions, the facility will be used 3 to 5 times a year and is not likely to exceed 12 uses per year. 2004/11/15 1025 Fundy Region Solid Waste Commission The proposed project involves the increasing of the height of the existing cells at the Crane Mountain Landfill by 15 metres, from 90 to 105 metres , which would increase the lifespan of the landfill by an anticipated 10-15 years. 2004/12/08 919 Department of Transportation The proponent proposes to replace the existing Wallace Cove Ferry Terminal with a new wharf facility. The new wharf facility will have increased marshalling yards for vehicles and will be able to accommodate a future (larger) anticipated design vessel. This will result in improving the transportation link between North Head on Grand Manan and Blacks Harbour. The Wallace Cove Ferry Terminal is located along the Bay of Fundy coast, approximately 2 km from Blacks Harbour. The DOT had successfully completed an EIA review of a floating wharf option in June 2004, but this has recently been changed and a fixed wharf option is currently being considered.
