Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation Board of Directors

Overview:

In anticipation of upcoming vacancies, the Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation is now accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates who would like to be considered for an appointment to the Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation Board in the positions of Board Members representing non-profits, business or citizens.

The Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation (“ESIC”) Act and Regulations provides for a Board consisting of a Chairperson, four Co-chairs, a President and seventeen members from across New Brunswick, who shall be appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor-in-Council.

Mandate:  To develop, oversee, coordinate and implement strategic initiatives and plans to reduce poverty and assist thousands of New Brunswickers to become more self-sufficient.

Vision:  Through the collaboration of governments, business and non-profit sectors, people living in poverty and individual citizens, all men, women and children in New Brunswick shall have the necessary resources to meet their basic needs and to live with dignity, security and good health. Furthermore, all New Brunswickers shall be included as full citizens through opportunities for employment, personal development and community engagement.

By 2015, New Brunswick will have reduced income poverty by 25% and deep income poverty by 50% and will have made significant progress in achieving sustained economic and social inclusion.

 

Qualifications:

-     candidates must be a resident of New Brunswick;

-     represents one of the three sectors:

      ·    one person for non-profit

      ·    one person for business

      ·    two people for citizens who are or have lived in poverty

-     have knowledge and interest in the issues of poverty in NB;

-     be able to communicate effectively and have a willingness to listen to others;

-     be available and committed to fully participate in board and committee meetings, conference calls, e-mails and other activities, as may be required;

-     be willing to serve a minimum of four years; and

-     be able to work collaboratively in a team environment to accomplish the Board’s goals and objectives.

 

Conditions:

Appointees must be available and agree to attend and actively participate in Board meetings, of which there are on average three per year and also participate in other meetings, conference calls, e-mails, and committees as required.

Transportation, lodging and meal expenses are reimbursed to members as per provincial guidelines.  Board Members receive a daily per diem as per the ESIC Act and by-laws.

Expressions of interests (a resume and cover letter) may be submitted via e-mail, regular mail or fax, with details of education, volunteer work, board/committee and work experience, knowledge of poverty issues and contact information (telephone, civic address and e-mail).
